There are several ways to explore this course in your Career Writing journey. Access to each of these proven approaches begins immediately when you sign up for the course.
Daily for 52 Days
- Wait mindfully for each successive module to unlock each day for 52 days, and spend part of each day reading the prompt, looking at the picture and writing your response. Remember though, the knowledge and insight you gain about yourself is not about the “doing”. Rather, it’s about the “being”. This approach is best for those who want to go slowly, avoid feeling overwhelmed and desire to exercise patience and mindfulness in discovering each prompt.
- Don’t feel any pressure to write a response each day (it’s entirely up to you), but research shows that the act of literally putting pen to paper helps our brains to make the right connections to the development process. Plus, having notes you can refer back to is helpful when you feel like it. We suggest that you get a simple, inexpensive journal with at least 52 pages in order to handwrite your responses to the prompts.
Pick a Card
- Is there a burning career question but no answers forthcoming? Do you want to explore “career” in a general sense? This exercise puts all the Career Writing prompts on the table. Pick one that inspires you and find your true self as you write your response: learn to hear yourself, trust your voice and dare to question your assumptions.
Ask and Answer
- Ask your question first, and then use the Career Writing prompt to find the answer. By posing your question first, you engage in introspection and set the stage for exploration. This tool offers diverse perspectives, sparking creative dialogue between yourself and the universe.
The Dialogue
- While we may feel like we are supposed to be consistent, our internal dialogue has a few different opinions on that. This tool provokes a conversation between the inconsistent and conflicting parts of yourself that encourages you to dig deeper.
The Past, Present, and Future
- In finding out where we want to go career-wise, it’s good to look back at where we’ve come from, and where we are now. This tool helps you creatively examine each time period in your life.
Hidden Issue and Insight
- This tool helps you creatively find the hidden issues you face, and the insight that can help you grow beyond them.
Join the Writing the Self International Community of Practice (ICoP)
- If you feel called to do so (not everyone is, and we totally respect that), you can also join the social group for this course on this site to discuss what you found, ask opinions, or just listen and learn more about how others are experiencing this course. If you do choose to join in, please respect your own and others privacy around what you share, and be the kind of gentle support that we all have the capacity and desire to give and receive.
